Hi! I'm Clarice, join me and my daughter Isabelle as we navigate the Filipino culture, by learning the Tagalog language.
I'm a 1.5 generation Filipina-American, originally from Batangas City. I moved to Los Angeles when I was 11 years old and studied Architecture from the University of Southern California (USC). I think I have a unique experience growing up Filipino-American straddling 2 worlds, and 2 languages. I was not from metropolitan Manila, I was from the province of Batangas with very traditional Filipino values, and their own unique regional Tagalog dialect. I did not come to the US fluent in English, but I quickly learned from watching a lot of TV and absorbing American pop culture. Comparing the two cultures was like day and night, family obligations comes first before you can even think about your own autonomy sense of self or identity. Growing up Filipino-American you learn how to navigate between these two worlds, how to act when you're with family and how to advocate for yourself and follow the American Dream.
My content is for my daughter Isabelle as she grows into her own identity, and navigate her own duality as a mixed race individual. I'm not sure which part of herself she will identify with more, the American side or Filipino side. Follow our journey to find out!
